About the Center for International Studies

The Center for International Studies (CIS) was newly established in 2025 by the University of Kassel, Germany and UNIKIMS, their Management School for part time studies and continuing education. The center promotes Diplomas of Basic Studies for students working in NGOs, engineering, developing assistance programs as well as local talents in countries of the Global South, who wish to contribute to the transformation of their country. Consequently, to meet the needs of these stakeholders, the individual CIS diploma cover the most urgent aspects and challenges of daily life of countries in the Global South and their communities.

Where the idea for the Center for International Studies originated

In August 2024, a delegation of professors, lecturers, and practitioners from the University of Kassel and local organizations visited the NGO „Moving Windmills Project“ in Kasungu, Malawi, to gain deeper insights into the challenges faced and overcome by countries in the Global South. This trip served as the foundation for the Center for International Studies and inspired the development of a comprehensive study program. The video captures the journey and key impressions from the visit.
